Welcome to Elder Musings. As you might guess, this blog is written from the perspective of an elder. What’s an elder, you say?
There are two ways to grow old. One way is to become increasingly inwardly focused, to withdraw, to remain static in a constantly changing world. People who grow old this way become curmudgeons, angry with the world and the people in it, and I daresay, are the sort of people who want to turn the clock back to “better times.” The outcome is to grow old and die, unhappy with the circumstances of life.
Or, as the older person, one embraces life ahead. Diversity and change are to be celebrated, not feared. The very act of growing old itself is a journey to be celebrated, a journey into a deeper understanding of self and relationship with the rest of the world.
To be an elder is to embrace life-long learning and to use the wisdom gained as teachers for others who are on the path. It is a move away from the ego and materialism to an expression of Self and spirituality.
